Shipping costs

This guide provides information on setting up your shipping costs and some useful information about how we handle shipping.

How shipping costs work

The cost of shipping for physical goods depends on where you and a merchant are located. Shipping costs and options vary across merchants. Cheersend allows you to set a shipping cost on your account that will be used to cover the cost of shipping a gift to your location. This is automatically added to the cost of a gift when we see that someone has added an item that requires shipping.

What are merchants?

A merchant is the seller of a good. For example, if you an an item to your wish list from Amazon, then Amazon is referred to as the merchant.

What happens when someone sends you a gift

When you receive a gift from someone, we'll try to automatically place the order for each item using the cheapest shipping option by default. The shipping cost you will pay to send a gift to you will depend on the merchant that the gift is from.

Shipment costs for gifts with multiple merchants

Someone may send a gift to you that involves shipping from multiple merchants. Each of these involves a separate shipping cost that the sender will have to pay for.

You may find it preferable to change this so that your senders pay for shipping once, or to a maximum amount on gifts sent to you. If you choose to do this, you will have to cover the remaining shipping cost to be able to ship your gift.

You can change the way shipping costs are handled by updating your shipping settings on your account.

Reducing shipping costs

Reducing shipping costs may help you receive more gifts from people. You should check your gift history to see what people most commonly send to you, and how much this costs them.

Covering the full shipping cost

By default, senders cover the full cost of shipping. This means that each shipping fee is added to the gift subtotal.

Pros and cons

This makes it easy for you, since no additional action or payment will be needed to receive your gifts. On the other hand, you may receive fewer gifts overall if you have items from many different places on your wish list.

Covering the shipping cost for a single item

When senders cover the cover shipping cost for a single item, they will only pay a single fee at most. If you receive a gift that has more than one shipping fee, you will have to cover the remaining fees to receive the other items.

Pros and cons

This encourages people to gift things to you, since there are less surprises when checking out, and shipping fees are reasonable. On the other hand, if you commonly receive gifts consisting of items from many different places, this may come to a lot over time.

Limiting the total shipping cost

When this option is selected, senders will pay up to a maximum amount you choose. For example, if you set the maximum shipping cost on your account to $30, a sender will only pay $30 at most for any gift they send to you.

Pros and cons

This is a good balance between the other two options and gives you the freedom to choose a reasonable shipping cost for both you and people that gift things to you. You may still need to cover any additional shipping costs if it is greater than the limit. Aside, you need to choose a good spot that is fair to senders and yourself. If this number is too high or too low, it can be expensive for you or your senders.
